Amended FINA rules 1st Oct 2013

Amended FINA rules come into force as from today. In essence the changes are: -

Backstroke:

At the finish, some part of the body must be breaking the surface.

Turn, as the swimmer turns onto their front to execute the turn, they must immediately deploy the continuous single arm pull or double arm pull (if an arm pull is used) to initiate the turn.

Breaststroke:

At the turn and finish, the touch must be made with both hands simultaneously and separated. There must be no contact between the hands as the touch is made on the wall.

At the turn, as the swimmer leaves the wall the body must be on the breast. That is to say, as soon as the feet have left the wall, the body must be inclined towards the breast, i.e. the shoulders must be 89 degrees or less towards the horizontal.

Butterfly:

 Freestyle:

No changes

All these rule changes have done, is to tidy up a few loose ends, so really shouldn’t cause too many problems.
